MISSION STATEMENT
We believe that Yiddishkayt — the culture, language, art, and worldviews of Eastern European Jews, as they lived in Europe and in the places they settled — has a crucial role to play in our world today.
Yiddish culture offers a much-needed model of diverse people coming together and rejecting parochialism, of fusion, collective creativity, and critical engagement.
WHAT WE DO
We serve the public by cultivating the work of new artists and scholars of culture that preserves, promotes, and broadcasts the legacy of Yiddish culture while embodying the spirit of diversity, solidarity with immigrant communities, and intercultural sensibilities common both to Los Angeles and the world of Yiddish. Yiddishkayt also is the creator of the Wallis Annenberg Helix Fellowship, training the next generation of scholars of Jewish culture, who go far beyond the traditional stories of Jews in Europe to bring an expanded vision of art, music, and literature back to their communities at home, at school, and throughout the world.

Yiddishkayt is the only organization of its kind — for a quarter century, we’ve been exploring our rich tradition of cultural innovation and connecting people to the progressive tradition of Jewish European and immigrant life.
We depend on community support to preserve, cultivate, and broadcast the best of Yiddishkayt: to keep questioning the status quo, to maintain an ethical anchor and embrace change, to resist stagnation and continue the constant cultural innovation that is Yiddishkayt.
